Lavelle Waste Services Becomes an Accredited Living Wage Employer

  |   Uncategorized

We’re proud to share an important milestone for Lavelle Waste Services: we are now an Accredited Living Wage Employer.

This accreditation represents far more than a badge or a title. It reflects our values, our respect for our people, and our commitment to doing business in the right way. As a company built on hard work, teamwork and reliability, we believe everyone deserves to earn a wage that allows them to live with dignity — not just get by.

What Is the Living Wage?

The Living Wage is an hourly rate calculated independently to reflect the real cost of living in the UK. Unlike the government’s minimum wage, which is set by legislation, the Living Wage is based on what people actually need to meet everyday expenses such as housing, food, energy, transport and childcare. The Living Wage Foundation accredits employers who commit to paying all direct employees — and relevant contractors — at least the real Living Wage. Accreditation also means employers must keep pay in line with future Living Wage increases, ensuring fair pay remains a long-term commitment rather than a one-off decision.

Why Becoming an Accredited Living Wage Employer Matters

For us, this decision is about fairness, responsibility, and respect. Waste management is a vital service. Our team members are out on the roads early in the morning, in all weather, keeping communities clean, safe and sustainable. Their work is physically demanding, essential, and often unseen — but it is always valuable. By becoming an Accredited Living Wage Employer, we’re formally recognising that value.

Supporting Our People

Paying the Living Wage helps ensure our employees can meet basic living costs without constant financial stress. When people are paid fairly, they are more secure, healthier, and better able to support their families. This creates a positive ripple effect — both at work and at home. For us, supporting our people isn’t just about wages. It’s about morale, wellbeing and showing appreciation for the dedication our teams bring to the business every day.

Attracting and Retaining Great Talent

Skilled, committed employees are the foundation of a reliable service. Paying the Living Wage helps us attract people who share our values and encourages long-term loyalty within the team. When staff feel respected and rewarded fairly, they’re more likely to stay, grow with the business, and take pride in the work they do. This stability benefits everyone — our employees, our customers, and our wider community.

Why This Is Important to Lavelle Waste

Lavelle Waste Services has always been about doing a solid job, treating people properly and being dependable. Becoming an Accredited Living Wage Employer feels like a natural extension of who we are. Our business succeeds because of the people who turn up every day, work hard, and take pride in what they do. Accreditation is a clear statement that we value that contribution and are prepared to back it up with action — not just words. We know this commitment won’t solve every challenge working people face, but we believe it’s a step in the right direction. It reinforces a culture of fairness and respect and reflects the kind of company we are proud to be.

Looking Ahead

This accreditation is not a finishing point — it’s a promise. A promise to continue investing in our workforce, to review our practices as the cost of living changes, and to hold ourselves accountable to the standards we believe in. We’re proud to stand alongside thousands of other Living Wage Employers across the UK who believe that fair pay is not just good ethics — it’s good business.

To our team: thank you for everything you do.

To our customers and partners: thank you for supporting a business that puts people at the heart of what it does.
